Circuit controls transients in SCR inverters

    Get PDF
Elimination of starting difficulties in SCR inverters is accomplished by the addition of two taps of the output winding of the inverter. On starting or under transient loads, the two additional taps deliver power through diodes without requiring quenching of SCR currents in excess of normal starting load

Multi-Frequency Magnonic Logic Circuits for Parallel Data Processing

We describe and analyze magnonic logic circuits enabling parallel data processing on multiple frequencies. The circuits combine bi-stable (digital) input/output elements and an analog core. The data transmission and processing within the analog part is accomplished by the spin waves, where logic 0 and 1 are encoded into the phase of the propagating wave. The latter makes it possible to utilize a number of bit carrying frequencies as independent information channels. The operation of the magnonic logic circuits is illustrated by numerical modeling. We also present the estimates on the potential functional throughput enhancement and compare it with scaled CMOS. The described multi-frequency approach offers a fundamental advantage over the transistor-based circuitry and may provide an extra dimension for the Moor's law continuation. The shortcoming and potentials issues are also discussed

Majorana fermion chain at the Quantum Spin Hall edge

    Get PDF
We study a realization of a 1d chain of Majorana bound states at the interfaces between alternating ferromagnetic and superconducting regions at a quantum spin Hall insulator edge. In the limit of well separated Majoranas, the system can be mapped to the transverse field Ising model. The disordered critical point can be reached by tuning the relative magnitude or phases of the ferromagnetic and superconducting order parameters. We compute the voltage dependence of the tunneling current from a metallic tip into the Majorana chain as a direct probe of the random critical state.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Elliptic Genera of Symmetric Products and Second Quantized Strings

    Get PDF
In this note we prove an identity that equates the elliptic genus partition function of a supersymmetric sigma model on the N-fold symmetric product MN/SNM^N/S_N of a manifold M to the partition function of a second quantized string theory on the space M×S1M \times S^1. The generating function of these elliptic genera is shown to be (almost) an automorphic form for O(3,2,Z). In the context of D-brane dynamics, this result gives a precise computation of the free energy of a gas of D-strings inside a higher-dimensional brane.Comment: 17 pages, latex, 1 figure, to appear in Commun.
